COMPARISONS
No-prep veneer vs traditional veneer: when each one belongs in the treatment plan
No-prep veneers (0.3-0.5mm) preserve enamel and skip anesthesia, but only work when the existing tooth is undersized, retroclined, or has space to add volume. Traditional veneers (0.5-0.7mm prep) handle discoloration, crowding, and rotated teeth that no-prep cannot mask.
THE BOTTOM LINE
No-prep veneers (0.3-0.5mm) preserve enamel and skip anesthesia, but only work when the existing tooth is undersized, retroclined, or has space to add volume. Traditional veneers (0.5-0.7mm prep) handle discoloration, crowding, and rotated teeth that no-prep cannot mask. Pick by starting tooth position, not by patient preference. The prep decision drives the lab workflow.

THE TRADE-OFFS
Where each one earns its place

The decision is driven by the starting tooth, not the patient's preference for a less invasive option. A no-prep veneer adds volume; it cannot subtract. If the facial surface is already at its final desired position, there is nowhere for the ceramic to go without bulking the emergence profile and creating a ledge at the gingival margin.

Pick no-prep veneers when the patient presents with small or peg laterals, retroclined anteriors, or generalized undersized teeth where adding 0.3-0.5mm of facial contour improves proportion. Choose traditional prep veneers when the case involves tetracycline staining, dark dentin showing through, rotations beyond a few degrees, or any tooth already in its correct facial position. Opt for traditional prep when the patient wants brighter shades than the starting tooth allows: the prep creates room for opaquer ceramic without bulking the emergence.

Borderline cases get a diagnostic wax-up before the prep decision is made. Dani's technicians will run the wax-up against an intraoral scan and flag whether no-prep is geometrically possible before chair time is committed.

Dani Dental fabricates both. The no-prep work uses pressed lithium disilicate on a refractory die, which is the technique that lets the ceramist hold 0.3mm at the incisal edge without losing strength. Traditional prep veneers run the same pressed workflow or feldspathic layered, depending on the esthetic ask from the prescribing dentist.

Honest read: if a case is borderline and the dentist is leaning no-prep for marketing reasons rather than tooth-position reasons, a traditional prep veneer will produce a better result. We will say so on the case planning call. The ceramic does what the prep allows. If a competing lab is willing to press 0.3mm veneers onto teeth that are already in final facial position, the bulk shows up at try-in and the case fails at the margin. That is not a lab problem, that is an indication problem.
