PVS vs polyether impression material for crown and bridge cases

Where each one earns its place
<p>The decision is not which material is better in the abstract. It is which material survives the conditions in the operatory on the day of the impression. Both materials, captured well, give a lab a margin we can read. Both materials, captured poorly, give us a remake.</p><p>Pick PVS when the case is a single unit or short-span bridge with supragingival or equigingival margins, isolation is reliable, and the case will sit in transit for more than 48 hours before pour. Choose polyether when margins sit deep subgingival, sulcular fluid is the limiting factor, or the case is an implant pickup where the impression has to lock around copings without distortion. For full-arch fixed work where moisture control is genuinely unpredictable, opt for polyether or move to an intraoral scan with a verified scan body protocol.</p><p>If the practice has shifted to digital, the material question shifts too. Send us the STL, send us the bite, and the analog tradeoff disappears for most crown and bridge work.</p>

Our crown and bridge technicians read either material at the margin without preference, so the choice belongs to the referring dentist and the case in front of them.
