Where each one earns its place
<p>The decision is rarely close on full-arch cases. Retrievability matters because the case has to last 10 to 20 years, and at some point a prosthetic tooth will fracture, an O-ring will wear, or a screw will need to be torqued. Cement-retained means sectioning. Screw-retained means a 5-minute chairside retrieval. That is the case for screw-retained on hybrids, and it is why every major implant manufacturer now ships angled screw channel components.</p><p>That said, the decision rules are situational. <strong>Choose screw-retained when the case is a full-arch hybrid or All-on-X, when implant angulation allows the access channel to exit through occlusal or lingual surfaces, and when long-term retrievability for hygiene + maintenance is the priority.</strong> <strong>Opt for cement-retained when the case is a single anterior implant crown where the implant was placed labially and an angled screw channel would still exit through the facial, and esthetics cannot tolerate any access hole.</strong> For single posterior units the calculus shifts again, but for the full-arch question that drove you here, the answer is screw-retained on planning-driven implant placement.</p><p>The upstream fix is to plan the implant positions for screw-retention from the surgical guide stage, not to recover with cement after the fact.</p>
