FAQ

Are no-prep veneers durable?

A straight answer first, then the context behind it, from the technicians who do the work.

THE SHORT ANSWER

No-prep veneers are durable for appropriate candidates, typically lasting 5-10 years with proper occlusal loading and oral hygiene. Feldspathic porcelain versions bond well to enamel but are more fracture-prone than pressed or CAD-milled alternatives. Case selection matters more than the restoration itself: patients with bruxism, edge-to-edge bite, or thin enamel see significantly shorter longevity without protective protocol adjustments.

THE CONTEXT

What sits behind it

Durability in no-prep veneers is primarily a function of bonding substrate quality. When sufficient enamel is present, resin-cement bond strengths to enamel reliably exceed 20 MPa, giving feldspathic veneers as thin as 0.3 mm a defensible clinical foundation. Remove enamel from that equation, and bond values drop sharply. The clinical message for prescribing doctors: enamel depth screening before case acceptance is not optional protocol, it is the durability decision.

Material selection is the second variable. Feldspathic porcelain offers superior light transmission and is the standard for anterior esthetic cases, but its flexural strength sits around 60-80 MPa. Pressed lithium disilicate runs 350-400 MPa. For patients with mild parafunction or heavier occlusal contact, a pressed or milled ultra-thin lithium disilicate veneer at 0.5 mm can deliver comparable esthetics with meaningfully better fracture resistance. The lab workflow for each material differs, and the prescription needs to specify both thickness target and material class to avoid a mismatch at try-in.

Dani Dental fabricates no-prep veneers via CAD design with hand-layered characterization on the facial surface, holding thickness tolerances to plus or minus 0.05 mm across the restoration. Prescriptions that include a full-arch scan, shade photo set, and occlusal analysis allow the technician to flag case selection concerns before fabrication begins, not after a remake.
