FAQ

Can veneers be replaced?

A straight answer first, then the context behind it, from the technicians who do the work.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Yes, veneers can be replaced. Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 20 years before replacement becomes necessary due to chipping, staining, marginal breakdown, or changes in the underlying tooth. Because enamel is removed during the original prep, the tooth will always require a veneer or equivalent restoration. Replacement veneers are fabricated to match the existing dentition in shade, contour, and emergence.

THE CONTEXT

What sits behind it

Replacement cases arrive at the lab with specific challenges that new-veneer cases do not. The original prep depth is fixed, and the replacement must restore function and esthetics within that envelope. Shade matching to adjacent natural teeth or retained veneers requires calibrated photography, ideally with a grey card reference and VITA shade tab confirmation. Feldspathic or pressed e.max choices depend on translucency goals and the condition of the prepped surface.

For prosthodontists and restorative-focused general dentists, replacement veneers are among the most technically demanding anterior cases. A single replacement in an otherwise intact anterior sextant must hit the same characterization, incisal translucency, and surface texture as teeth that have aged in the mouth for years. At Dani Dental, single-unit anterior replacements go to a named ceramist with the original case photos where available, reducing remake cycles on shade.

Turnaround for replacement veneers follows the same 5 to 7 business day standard as new veneer cases, provided a digital scan or accurate PVS impression is submitted with adequate pre-op documentation. Cases requiring custom shading or multi-unit sequencing are discussed directly with the technician before fabrication begins, not after the first try-in.
