How is anatomy designed in CAD?

CAD anatomy design starts with the software proposing a tooth form based on the contralateral or a library average. That proposal is a starting point, not a finished product. The technician evaluates it against the opposing arch scan, checks centric stops and excursive pathways, then reshapes cusps and ridges until the virtual bite is right. Posterior anatomy must match functional load patterns; anterior anatomy must satisfy both esthetics and guidance. Cutting corners at this stage produces remakes.

For prosthodontists and general dentists running complex restorative cases, the CAD design stage is where most esthetic and functional failures originate. A restoration that mills perfectly but carries a poorly designed central fossa will fracture or hyper-occlude in the mouth.
