Every football guard Dani Dental fabricates starts with the impression or scan your office submits. We accept PVS impressions, alginate pours mounted on stone, and STL files from any major intraoral scanner. If the model has voids or the scan has an incomplete arch registration, we flag it before cutting material, not after. That single communication step is why our remake rate stays below 2.5%. Material selection comes next. We stock ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) in three durometer grades: a soft 3 mm layer for athletes with existing restorations or crown work, a 4 mm dual-laminate for linemen and tight ends taking consistent direct contact, and a 6 mm hard-shell laminate for players with documented TMJ loading history or bruxing patterns. Your Rx form specifies the grade; if nothing is specified, we call the prescribing clinician before fabricating. No default assumptions go unconfirmed. Fabrication runs on our Biostar vacuum-forming unit with timed heat cycles calibrated per material lot. Trimming follows a position-specific arch template: skill-position guards are trimmed to the second molar for lower profile and speech clarity; lineman guards extend full-posterior for maximum coverage. All edges are heat-polished on the Erkodent flame station, removing any micro-burr that would irritate the vestibule during prolonged wear. The finished piece ships in a labeled ventilated case with the prescribing dentist's contact and the patient's bite registration included. For practices managing a school athletic program or youth travel team, we offer a pre-season batch workflow. Submit all models together with a single consolidated Rx sheet. We stage production across two sequential days and return the full batch labeled per patient by day five. No per-patient courier runs, no split shipments.

How long does fabrication take for a single football guard order?
Standard turnaround is 3 business days from receipt of an accurate model or approved STL file. Rush orders (next-business-day) are available for an additional fee when submitted before 10 a.m. Arizona time. Rush availability is confirmed by phone at the time of order, not assumed. Pre-season batch orders for 5 or more guards ship on day 5.
Can I order football guards for an entire school team in one batch?
Yes. Submit all models or STL files together with a single consolidated Rx sheet. Label each model or file with the patient name and jersey number. We stage production across two sequential days and return the full batch labeled per patient by day 5. One courier pickup, one invoice. Does a custom football guard protect existing crown and bridge work better than a stock guard?

A custom guard is adapted precisely to the occlusal surfaces of existing restorations, so impact load spreads across the full arch. For patients with anterior veneers, full-coverage crowns, or fixed bridges, a well-fitted custom guard is the standard of care before return to contact play. We note restoration locations on the lab Rx so trimming preserves proper seating.
What information do I put on the lab Rx for a football guard?
Include: patient name, arch (upper, lower, or both), material grade (3 mm soft, 4 mm dual-laminate, or 6 mm hard-shell), any existing restorations or implants in the arch, player position if known, and turnaround preference (standard 3-day or rush). If the patient wears a fixed retainer on the lower anterior, note it so we can relieve the guard at that contact point. Incomplete Rx forms get a same-day callback before fabrication starts.
