  • Talk to the technician who built it
  • Full digital workflow

Every retainer case enters the Dani Dental Digital Intake Queue within 2 hours of arrival, whether it comes in as an intraoral scan file (STL or PLY via 3Shape Communicate or Medit Link) or as a physical PVS impression that gets poured and scanned in-house. No case sits in a generic inbox overnight waiting for a routing decision. Scan files are validated for completeness, occlusal coverage, and margin definition before CAD work begins. If the file is incomplete, the assigned technician calls the submitting office directly, not through a ticket system, and the office gets a resolution inside the same business day. Essix retainer fabrication runs on a pressure-formed workflow using 0.040-inch and 0.030-inch Zendura FLX material, depending on the clinical specification submitted with the case. Zendura FLX was specified over standard Essix-C Plus material because its layered elastic core absorbs occlusal load without the stress-whitening that cheaper sheet stock produces after 3 months of wear. Clinicians who have moved to this material report noticeably fewer patient complaints about cracking at the canine regions. The vacuum-formed alternative is available on request for cost-sensitive cases, with a clear material note on the enclosed spec sheet so the prescribing doctor knows exactly what shipped. Hawley retainers are built on poured stone models with Adams clasps or ball-clasp variants depending on arch position and patient age noted in the prescription. Wire is .028 stainless or .030 stainless per the lab order. Acrylic base color is standard pink unless the doctor specifies a clear or alternative from our 8-color swatch set. Finished Hawleys are articulated against the opposing model before boxing, so gross occlusal interferences are caught at the bench, not at delivery. Bonded lingual retainers (3-3 and canine-to-canine) are fabricated using pre-formed .0215 x .028 dead-soft twisted wire, bent on the original model to passive fit. Indirect bonding trays are included with every lingual retainer order at no added charge, because passive-fit wire placed with a precise transfer tray produces fewer post-bond adjustments than direct placement. The tray material is Copyplast 1.0mm, trimmed just below the gingival margin to maintain visibility during bonding. Shipping follows a fixed schedule: cases approved for fabrication by 10 a.m. Arizona time ship on day 3 via FedEx Priority or courier depending on the account's preference on file. A tracking link goes to the submitting office email automatically at the time of label generation. The assigned technician's direct extension is printed on the enclosed prescription recap sheet. If a case lands and something does not seat correctly, the technician picks up the call and determines within the same conversation whether a no-charge remake, a simple adjustment instruction, or a chairside fix is the right answer.

HOW IT IS BUILT

From prescription to seated case.

01

Prescription in

Send a scan file or a model with your RX. A technician reads your intent before any design begins.

02

Design & verify

We design to your margin and occlusion, then verify the fit against your prescription before it ships.

03

Build at the bench

Milled, pressed, or hand-layered as the case calls for, finished by a named technician.

04

Back to your chair

Pre-paid shipping returns the case ready to seat, with the technician reachable if anything needs an adjustment.

This is our standard pipeline. The exact steps for retainers for teeth are being detailed and will appear here.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What dentists ask about retainers for teeth

What file formats does Dani Dental accept for digital retainer cases?
STL and PLY files are accepted from any major intraoral scanner. Uploads can be submitted through 3Shape Communicate or Medit Link directly to your account's assigned technician. If your scanner exports a proprietary format, contact us before the first submission and we will confirm compatibility or arrange a conversion step. Cases submitted by 10 a.m. Arizona time typically enter the fabrication queue the same day.
Can I still send a physical impression instead of a digital scan?
Yes. PVS and polyether impressions are accepted. Dani Dental pours and scans them in-house, so the fabrication workflow is identical to a digital submission after that step. Add one business day for the pour-and-scan step. Alginate is not accepted because dimensional stability degrades before the model can be poured reliably. Use a vinyl polysiloxane impression material for physical submissions.
What is the standard turnaround for Essix retainers?
Three business days from the date the case is approved for fabrication. Approval happens when the scan or model is validated and no clinical information is missing. If the prescription is incomplete on arrival, the assigned technician contacts the office the same day. Urgent cases with a documented clinical need can be flagged for a 2-business-day expedite; contact your technician at intake to confirm availability for that window.
Which material do you use for Essix retainers and why?
Zendura FLX is the standard material at 0.040 inch for most cases and 0.030 inch for lighter-contact cases where the doctor specifies thinner stock. Zendura FLX uses a layered elastic core that reduces stress-whitening and cracking at the canine region compared to standard Essix-C Plus sheet stock. If your practice uses a different preferred material, note it on the prescription and we will accommodate or advise on the closest available equivalent.
Do you include indirect bonding trays with lingual retainers?
Yes, at no added charge. Every bonded lingual retainer order ships with a Copyplast 1.0mm indirect bonding tray trimmed just below the gingival margin. The tray transfers the passively bent wire to the correct position without chairside bending, which is the primary source of wire deformation and subsequent bond failure. If you prefer to place without a tray, the wire is still bent to passive fit on the original model.
What happens if a retainer does not seat correctly after delivery?
Call the direct extension printed on the prescription recap sheet included in the shipping box. The assigned technician answers and determines in the same conversation whether a no-charge remake, a specific adjustment protocol, or a chairside fix resolves the issue. No ticket queue, no 48-hour callback window. If a remake is warranted, it ships on the same 3-business-day cycle from the day the return or additional scan is received.
Can Dani Dental handle retainer orders across multiple practice locations?
Yes. Practices with multiple locations can set up a single account with location-coded prescription sheets and individual shipping addresses per office. Billing is consolidated or split by location depending on preference. DSO accounts with 10 or more locations can request a documented turnaround SLA and dedicated account management. Contact us to configure the account structure before sending the first multi-location batch.
What Hawley retainer wire gauges and acrylic options are available?
Adams clasps and ball clasps are both available in .028 and .030 stainless steel. Wire gauge selection defaults to .028 unless the prescription specifies otherwise. Acrylic base color defaults to standard pink. Eight alternative colors are available on request; ask for the swatch card to be included in your first shipment. Clear acrylic is available and is the common choice for younger patients or for cases where esthetics during retention are a concern.
