Scottsdale Sports Mouth Guard

Scottsdale runs a serious athletic calendar. The Scottsdale Unified and Paradise Valley Unified school systems field varsity and club rosters across football, lacrosse, basketball, and wrestling, and the city's adult recreational leagues at facilities like Chaparral Park keep that patient base active year-round. Dentists here see the downstream of inadequately protected athletes: fractured anteriors, concussive jaw trauma, soft-tissue lacerations from ill-fitting OTC trays. A lab-fabricated custom guard eliminates most of that exposure.

THE DETAIL

How we build it.

Most national-volume dental labs route athletic guards to a low-margin auxiliary line handled by junior bench staff. At Dani Dental, every guard order is reviewed by a named technician who carries direct-line accountability, not routed through a general queue with a 48-hour response SLA buried in a portal. When a Scottsdale clinician calls about a guard adjustment, they reach the bench, not a customer service tier. Category-level labs that built their reputation on crown-and-bridge volume treat removable and protective appliances as afterthought SKUs. Dani's Arizona roots mean the athletic guard volume is local-market native, not an add-on to a coastal production center. Turnaround from scan receipt to delivery averages 5 business days on the standard queue, with a 3-business-day rush option available for competitive season crunches. No minimum order count is required, so practices ordering for a single patient get the same fabrication standard as a sports medicine group placing 40 units per quarter. The remake policy is straightforward: if fit is outside tolerance on delivery, we remake at no charge. That commitment is not hedged with exclusion language around impression quality or scan accuracy. We flag scan or impression issues before fabrication and contact the practice first, which eliminates most remake scenarios before they start.

GETTING CASES TO US

Logistics, to the bench.

Dani Dental produces custom athletic guards from pressure-laminated EVA in thicknesses from 3 mm to 6 mm depending on sport and occlusal loading profile. Every order starts with either a digital scan file (STL accepted from any intraoral scanner) or a PVS impression shipped in our prepaid lab mailer. We pour, trim, and laminate in-house at our Arizona facility. No overseas outsourcing, no pass-through vendor in the chain. For orthodontic patients, which represent a significant share of Scottsdale's adolescent athletic population, we fabricate over-the-bracket designs that accommodate bracket clearance without sacrificing retention. Color matching, team colors, and player name embossing are available at no additional lead-time cost. Guards ship with a hard case and care instructions formatted for patient handout use.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What practices ask

What file format do you accept for digital guard fabrication?
We accept STL files from any intraoral scanner, including iTero, 3Shape TRIOS, Medit, and Carestream. Upload via our secure case portal or email directly to your assigned technician. If you are submitting a physical impression, our prepaid lab mailer ships to Scottsdale-area practices within one business day of request. PVS is preferred; alginate is accepted if same-day poured and triple-bagged.
Can you fabricate guards for patients currently in orthodontic treatment?
Yes. Over-the-bracket designs are a standard catalog item, not a special-request upcharge. We account for bracket clearance in the lamination profile and build retention into the posterior extensions rather than relying on anterior bracket contact. We recommend re-fabricating when appliances are removed post-treatment, since occlusal changes during active orthodontics affect fit within one to two months.
What is the turnaround time for a rush order during peak season?
Rush production runs 3 business days from confirmed scan or impression receipt. Rush applies to all guard types including dual-laminate and over-the-bracket designs. There is a flat rush fee per unit regardless of guard type. For Scottsdale practices managing fall football or spring lacrosse season volumes, we recommend discussing a standing order cadence with your assigned technician to reduce reliance on rush queue slots.
What thickness options are available and how do I choose?
We offer 3 mm, 4 mm, and 6 mm single-layer and dual-laminate configurations. For low-contact sports such as basketball or baseball, a 3 mm single-layer is typically sufficient. Full-contact sports, football and lacrosse specifically, warrant a 4 mm or 6 mm dual-laminate. Patients with a history of jaw trauma or bruxism on top of athletic use should be evaluated for the 6 mm dual-laminate regardless of sport classification.
Do you offer team or school group pricing for Scottsdale-area practices?
Volume pricing is available for orders of 10 or more units submitted within a single 30-day window. There is no minimum per-case order requirement outside of volume pricing, so practices handling individual patients pay standard unit pricing. Contact your assigned technician to set up a volume order profile before a team season begins. We typically need 2 weeks advance notice to schedule production around high-volume intake periods.
What is your remake policy if a guard does not fit on delivery?
If a guard arrives outside fit tolerance, we remake it at no charge. We do not apply exclusion language tied to impression or scan quality after the fact. Instead, we review every scan and impression before cutting material and contact the practice if we identify an issue that would compromise the outcome. That pre-production review step resolves most fit problems before the guard is fabricated, keeping remakes rare and turnaround predictable.
